Title:  Improving Product Development with Value Analysis/ Value Engineering

Abstract:  Describes how VA/VE can be used to improve product development by clearly defining the functions a new product    must perform and ways to develop alternatives that accomplish these functions at the lowest possible cost.

Publication:  1987 SAVE International Conference Proceedings

Title:  The Human Side of Value Engineering
Co-Authors, James R. Wixson, CVS and Harold J. Heydt

Abstract:  This paper addresses people, pride, and their interrelationship with the Value Engineering (VE) technique.  It explores the importance of people for the success of the technique.  It discusses leadership skills, verbal and non-verbal communication, team member and recognition and participation, knowledge of right and left brain characteristics and the part each play in the job plan leading to the successful integration of philosophy and techniques to create change and improve performance.

Publication:  1991 SAVE International Conference Proceedings

Title:  Development of an ES&H Compliance Plan Using MORT, FAST

Abstract:  Describes determination of root causes & causal factors using Management, Oversight, Risk Tree (MORT) analysis and FAST Diagramming.

Publication:  1992 SAVE International Conference Proceedings

Note:  This paper was chosen by SAVE as containing "Technological Advancements to the Value Analysis process."  See notice.

Title:  Development of the Environmental Management Integrated Baseline at the INEEL Using Systems Engineering

Abstract:  This paper describes how an Environmental Management Integrated Baseline was created using Systems Engineering and captured in the SLATE requirement management database.

Publication:  1996 INCOSE Proceedings

Title:  Value managed Failure Analysis and Product/Process Improvement

Abstract:  Recommends tailoring the VA/VE methodology's job plan to be used as a failure analysis and product/process improvement tool.

Publication:  1997 SAVE International Conference Proceedings

Title:  Function Analysis and Decomposition using Function Analysis Systems Technique

Abstract:  This paper shows how the FAST Methodology from Value Engineering can be used to identify key functions. It also discusses the parallel between VE and Systems Engineering and how VE can be used to enhance Systems Engineering.

Publication:  INCOSE '99 Proceedings

Title:  How Root Cause Analysis can Improve the VE Methodology

Abstract:  This paper shows how the VE Methodology can be improved by using Root Cause Analysis in the Information Phase of the VE/VA Job plan.  This methodology is also know as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis only it is applied to the functions of a system rather than activities in a process flow.

Publication:  2002 SAVE International Conference Proceedings

Title:  A Systems Dynamics View of the Theory of Constraints

Abstract:  The concepts of ongoing improvement embodied in the Theory of Constraints (TOC) are enhanced using System Dynamics. By providing a way to model and simulate the system under study through System Dynamics and applying the rules of TOC to the model, alternative solutions to improve system operation can be developed.

Publication:  2003 Systems Dynamics Society Annual Conference

Title:  A Value Management Approach to Improving Quality Performance

Abstract:  This paper shows how FAST modeling combined with FMEA and other analytical techniques were used to identify areas for improvement and resolve the issues related to inadequate continuous improvement efforts.

Publication:  2005 SAVE International Conference Proceedings

Title:  Value Analysis/Value Engineering: The Forgotten Lean Technique

Abstract:  This paper was the feature article published in the April 2005 SAVE Interactions publication.  It describes how VA/VE can improve and enhance any Lean Management or Lean Manufacturing effort by focusing on material costs and meeting customer requirements.

Publication:  April 2005 SAVE Interactions

Title:  Lean Design with Value Engineering

Abstract:  This is a .pdf file of the PowerPoint presentation that was presented to the Society of Manufacturing Engineers via Webinar on May 21, 2009.  The recorded Webinar can be downloaded from this link:  Link to Recorded Webinar
